For this broadcast roundup we had the freedom to chose five relevant stories in the news from each of the following categories: campus, national, international, local/regional, and feature. The challenge was writing for radio, and deciding which facts were the most relevant to keep in three to four sentence broadcast-style stories.

North Korea is prepared to attack. Despite U.S. assurance that North Korea does not possess weapons powerful enough to reach North America, a North Korean official swears that they have the technology. The country has made claims that if the U.S. threatens to use nuclear forces against them they are prepared to strike first. A United States official accuses the Pentagon of lying when it says North Korea doesn’t have the weapons to reach the United States.
Terror ensued at a San Diego park this past Saturday. A crowd was gathered at Chicano (Chi- KAHN-o) park for a motorcycling event, La Raza Run when a pickup truck swerved off of an overhead, sixty foot bridge. The driver was injured along with nine innocent people. Four people died at the scene after being crushed by the vehicle. A public information officer reports the the driver was under the influence and has been arrested.
Big news for the upcoming season of Stranger Things. The Netflix original has had avid fans angrily tweeting over the death of beloved character, Barb. Her decaying body was shown on last season’s finale. It has been confirmed that, unfortunately, Barb will not be returning for another season. However, Stranger Things star David Harbour has reassured viewers that there will be justice for Barb.
Last night hikers and New England residents were reminded how important it is to hike prepared. A Massachusetts hiker was not ready for the night that he endured while alone and lost in Vermont’s Camel Hump State Park. He was found this morning walking out of the woods. He had started his hike late in the day, and was separated from his friends. The unprepared hiker did not have a flashlight, lamp, or warm clothing. Public safety officials are using his story as a learning experience, and will not fine the hiker with the costs of his search.
Salve is celebrating Hispanic Heritage this month with Festival de Cine (day seen-a). The Hispanic film festival continues until October thirtieth. Salve will be showing films produced from various Spanish-speaking countries in Antone, room one twenty eight. Make sure to catch one of these can’t-miss films before the end of the month. Tickets are ten dollars at the door.
